NG – performance
critique of the National Gallery and its management.
Painting the logo of the National Gallery so that it looks again as it did originally.
Richard Wiesner’s performance, 18.8 2010 in Prague, in front of the main entrance of the Veletržní Palace, NG.
Considering the present dismal state of the National Gallery logo, placed above the entrance of the Veletržní Palace, I decided to solve the situation by a performance – to repaint the logo so that it regains the original colours of the letters “NG”. For me, the logo and the gallery entrance is telling something about the reputation of the National Gallery and its management and therefore I cannot stay calm and indifferent towards its further progress. This act was to illustrate the fact, that the management of this institution has not even noticed the wanness of the logo and let the public know through the media.
